Friendship
I chose this shot as my introduction picture
for the photographic essay because I think that it is a good beginning to,
first of all, show how phones influence our relationship to each other.
3 friends sitting on the kitchen table each of
them on their phone.
There are mugs and glasses on the table, to
show that actually they were supposed to talk and catch up. But eventually they
just end up isolating themselves, all in the same room, yet each of them in
their own little world.
I think another reason why I chose this as my
first shot is because it shows friendship (as the title of the photograph indicates as well), and how phones affect the relation
between friends. Although friendship is a very special relationship I feel that
in this context it is less alarming than, for instance, a family relationship
that is influenced by new technologies. Maybe also because all these friends
are pretty much the same age and as they all belong to the ‘generation Z’ one
would maybe rather expect to seem them behaving like that. This image is supposed
to introduce us to the general problem, by showing us a scene that we see
regularly in our daily life, whether it is at school, in town or in a cafe,
there is always going to be a group of friends sitting together with their
phones.
As you can see, the contrast between the white walls and the 'dark' friends sitting on the table is really strong in this picture, which is supposed to put the viewers attention even more on the individuals.
